20 Posts I Loved Writing in 2010

Everyone this week seems to be focused on the wrap-up party for 2010.  I’ve never been one to shy away from a party, so count me in. Gini Detrich’s end-of-year post on Spin Sucks is probably one of the coolest I’ve read so far this year.  She does a nice job ranking the top-10 posts of 2010 by the amount of comments they receive. My Take on The End It’s was a good exercise for me to walk back through the last year of writing.  It’s helped me get laser-focused for next year and also brought back some good memories. I’m a bit selfish, I guess.  I’ve selected my top-20 by looking at comments, shares and a little traffic stats – but, mostly, these are the posts that I loved writing.  Fair? 20 Posts I Loved Writing in 2010 What We Can Learn About Trust & Brand from DK Diner – I wrote this back in January of this year.  Along with having killer doughnuts, DK Diner knows how to create a customer experience that makes you feel right at home – pajamas and all. How To Use Google Wave to Get More from Events & Conferences – What ever happened to Google Wave?  Well, it’s still there, but mostly off-radar today.  Wasn’t it supposed to be Google’s next big thing?  At any rate, this was another January post and an idea that worked pretty well. 23 Ideas to Help WNCI’s Morning Zoo with Dave & Jimmy Get Better at Using Social Media - Apparently, January was an “on” month.  This list of ideas got your attention, as well as the attention of the Ohio Center for Broadcasting.  Pretty cool. My Slides from Social Media Campaign Building

Yesterday was a good day. Along with Michele Savoldi and Anna Harper-Hess, I had the opportunity to speak with a group of entrepreneurs and business folks up in Bellfountaine, Ohio.  These folks braved temperatures slighty above zero to attend the Social Media Campaign Building, an event created by Tiffany Eckhardt. It dawns on me, as I get up to talk about Human Business Teams, that I’m standing in the front of the room, looking at a group of business owners who are the survivors.  It’s no joke that the economy has been in the dumps for the past few years.  Optimism seems to be rising among U.S. CEOs, yet many smaller businesses have shut the doors. But not the folks in the room yesterday.  They survived.  Some of their competitors didn’t.  And that carries some important meaning.  It means that the playing field is now smaller and survivors like Scott Griffith and Lee’s Chicken (one of my Maka’s favorite places to eat in Lima, OH) now have more opportunity than ever to capture market share. Roberta and Jeff over at Yoder Concrete are in the same boat.  Their business got hit pretty hard, but they survived.  Now they are focused on using tools like blogs and Twitter to support their business growth.  Mark Boyer is focused on growth too, from the very bottom up.  He’s starting a Christian radio station that will be called ShineFM.  We’ll be going to lunch soon to talk about how social media tools can fit into his business strategy. What Successful Use of Social Media Takes My opinion?  It takes teams of humans. It takes humans who are skilled, passionate and excited about connecting with other humans on the web.  Humans who can be entrusted to represent a brand, but who also speak to people genuinely and in plain English (replace English with other languages if [...]
