5 Reasons You Should Attend a Social Fresh Conference
I spend a lot of time at conferences. Some are good, and some are just an excuse to hang out with the social geek crowd. My recent trip to Social Fresh Tampa was one of the better conference experiences I’ve had recently. Here are 5 reasons why this conference should be on your MUST attend list: 1. Good Peoples For one, Social Fresh was a chance to meet up with a lot of very smart and genuinely nice humans. Who are they? Here’s a list of some of the cool folks I got to know a little better. There are plenty more, but the post is already over 1,000 words. Paula Berg – Former social media team leader at Southwest Airlines, now with LinhartPR. Paula was the keynote speaker. She’s a really cool gal. Stephanie Wonderlin – Stephanie created what you might know as Tweetheart TV. This gal is doing some uber-cool things with YouTube. Mitch Neff – Mitch is one of my fellow Ohioans, who relocated to the sun and sand of Florida. Aside from being a social media marketing guru, Mitch is a dad of three and master blanket-fort builder. Justin Levy – Now leading social media at Citrix Online, Justin was on the ground floor for New Marketing Labs. He also owns a steakhouse. Ellie Mirman – Ellie is an inbound marketing specialist at HubSpot and was key in pulling together the very first Inbound Marketing Summit in 2008. Chris Penn – Now with Blue Sky Factory, Chris stands somewhere between IT and Marketing and teaches each paradigm how to understand the other. In the game of web analytics, he’s one of the best in the field. Kristy Bolsinger – Kristy is a social media marketing strategist currently working with Ant’s Eye View in Seattle, WA. Like Paula, she has a real [...]
Read This PostHOW TO Promote an Event Using Twitter – Guest Hannah DeMilta
I’m pleased to feature the very talented Hannah DeMilta as a guest blogger today. Hannah and I met a few months back via social media, and found that we both shared the Otterbein College experience in Westerville. She is set to graduate from Otterbein this Spring and has already begun weaving the threads of her professional network, in large part with the relationships she’s built using tools like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. In my opinion, Hannah is an extraordinary example of how students can jump ahead of the career curve by making a commitment to using social media tools to reach career goals, developing a personal brand presence and networking like crazy. My advice? Keep your eye on Hannah. She is on the rise. Hannah DeMilta blogs about PR, college, her career goals and other communication-related topics. Here are a few how-to tips from her own experience using Twitter to promote the Otterbein PRSSA PaRtners Conference. HOW TO Promote an Event Using Twitter There are some simple ways we are using Twitter to promote our upcoming event. PaRtners Conference is a one-day event being held at Otterbein College on April 24. It is geared toward public relations and communications students, organized by Otterbein PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America). You might consider some of these same details when promoting your next event through Twitter. We decided not to create a separate Twitter account for the conference. We had already built a following for @OtterbeinPRSSA and decided to focus on the network we already had. We knew that a lot of our followers were communication students, PRSSA chapters and local professionals already invested in what we had to say. A lot of times I see groups create new accounts a month before their event and they don’t have the time [...]

The Columbus AMA has been kicking butt and taking names so far this year, bringing the community together at events and providing forward-thinking content. This is the second promotional post for this week on local Columbus events. The first was another AMA-sanctioned event, featuring my friend and partner, Mark Whitman. If you’re not in or around Columbus, this likely will not mean much to you (but please keep reading anyway). I’m a big advocate of Columbus’s tech start-up and social web scene, so I can’t help but make some noise for my hometown and all of the innovation and community activities we have going on here… The low-down on the event: What does SIG mean?
