For the third installment of 3 Cool Kids You Should Stalk This Week, we’ll make a short stop in Las Angelas, California. Remember that you can always go back and catch up on the cool kids you missed from previous weeks as well. Okay? - nate 3 Cool Kids You Should Stalk This Week – #3 This week’s cool kids post features a group of internet marketers spread across the sunny state of Florida. Take some time this week, use the links I’ve provided and go get your stalk on… Amara Vadee Poolswasdi Twitter: @amaravp Site: AmaraVadee.com Other: AboutMe Stalkers Debrief: I first met up with Amara (and all the rest of today’s cool kids) down in Austin at this year’s SXSW Festival. We soon learned that putting her and Elijah in the same general vicinity for any period of time ensured that everyone in ears shot would be laughing one they decided to riff off each other. Amara has an incredible sense of humor, as well as quite a bit of talent in design and communications. When you stalk, make sure to ask her how her race training is going. Megan Corbett Twitter: @megcorbs Blog: MitchNeff.com Other: On Mashable Stalkers Debrief: Megan is a ball of energy with a smile attached. She’s works as an online community manager for Excela Marketing our in L.A. With her natural talent for getting people talking, I think it was a good career choice. I expect that Megan will continue her legacy of kicking ass and taking names for many years to come. Check her out.
The fact that Twitter has now become a reason to gather fascinates me. Cheryl and I had the chance to travel to a gathering of of the cool Twitter kids in Detroit this weekend. The EPIC Chevy Tweetup went off exactly as it was branded: EPICally. It seems there are loads of things happening in Detroit these days. That might contradict what you’ve heard (or not heard) on the news. I think the recent groundswell around technology and innovation is a result of how tight-knit the social media community is up there. And yet, we were welcomed from three-and-a-half hours away as a part of the crowd. That’s just cool. Folks like Charlie and Elena Wollberg made us feel so comfortable and filled us in on who Detroit is changing. Becky Johns was the reason we heard about EPIC in the first place. She was kind enough to introduce us to a whole crew of people. And have you looked at my Twitter background recently? Twilk is the work of Kyle Mulka, who’s also out of Detroit. What was classic was watching Brandon Chesnutt and Christopher Barger rock many a tune during the live band karaoke portion of the night. These dudes know how to win over crowds. What Makes a Tweetup EPIC It’s ironic that on the drive up to Michigan, I was reminded of “plur” while listening to Tony Hsieh read his book, Delivering Happiness. You see, back in early days of college, I was one of the kids who caught the tail end of the rave scene. My friends and I danced nights away deep in the underground of vacant warehouses and closed-down skating rinks. The electronic sounds of DJs like Bad Boy Bill, Tiesto and even Paul Okenfold fed the parties with enough energy to light up a city. At raves, plur was a [...]

A lot of folks give me service about doing so many locally-focused blog posts. I get that. I’m supposed to “think global.” Whatever. For some posts, I’ll continue to “think local.” That’s me. That’s my blog. Okay? I live in and love Columbus, Ohio. My town and the people in it are important to me. What they do is important to me too. Community, right? This week, our friends at Columbus’s Available Light Theatre Company are putting on something special in honor of the 50th year of Harper Lee’s great American novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, on crisis in a Southern community. My friends, Artie Isaac and Ian Short, as well as the many talented folks at Available Light have adapted this classic story to the stage. I’m going on Sunday and I think YOU should come too. Here are 15 reasons why I think you need a night at the show: You’ll be in good company with both the performers and the audience Ian Short and Matt Slaybaugh are some of the most creative, theatrical minds in Columbus The play’s language may make you uncomfortable. Good. We learn better when we are out of our comfort zone. You may get to see Artie with out the bowtie. That will be out of his comfort zone. It will be a stark reminder of some of the mistakes in our country’s history If you really want to dig in, there are talkbacks every day (except Sunday) 614 Magazine thinks it’s a good idea You might get to meet my mom. She and Sarah are coming with me on Sunday. Most of you probably haven’t picked up To Kill A Mockingbird since childhood. Think of this as a hearty refresher. You don’t have to read anything at all. The cast has that part [...]
