I’m just back from an incredible event in the big easy.
This year’s Fast Casual Executive Summit brought together top-level executives from a variety of brands to create the perfect storm of open dialog and discussion on some of today’s hottest trends in the restaurant business.
During the event, I also had the chance to sit down, one-on-one with Carl and talk shop on Italian concepts, Fazolis brand recovery and how social media and mobile fit across their business.
Tune into this week’s episode of the Social Restaurant Podcast, to hear the interview we recorded in the halls of Lowes Hotel in New Orleans.
Carl is a restaurant ‘lifer’ and has been the Chief Executive Officer of Fazolis since June 2008. Prior to that, he led Damon’s Grill as CEO where he directed efforts to improve the chain’s performance and position it for growth under new ownership. He has over 21 years of restaurant and management experience and holds a degree in Business Administration from Ohio State University.
What You’ll Learn During the Interview
- How Fazolis has integrated social media into their business and some of the creative approaches that make it work for them.
- The challenges that the brand has faced in the last five years and how they have overcome them to post 18 consecutive months of same store sales growth.
- The story behind Fazolis new upscale, modern Italian concept, Veinti Tres and where it is going in 2014.
- Carl’s take on mobile as a consumer trend and what their focused on as a brand.

Restaurant News of the Week
I had the privilege of covering a few sessions for FastCasual.com, which kept me pretty close to the action.
I mention the recap posts during the show, but if you want to get a pulse on the industry, take a look at the transcription from the CEO Panel that included Carl Howard of Fazolis, Don Fox, CEO of Firehouse Subs and Erle Dardick, CEO of Monkey Media Software.
Make sure to give it a read. I think you’ll find some nuggets that might just change the way you think.
