Your Weekly Branding Activity

Before I had the chance to talk with a group of students at the AMA International Collegiate conference on personal branding, I wrote this post.  It’s a summary of the ideas behind the presentation and you can also find the slide deck embedded there. On the Argument to Post Blog Content Daily

Okay. I told Cheryl this was coming at the Cbusr meetup last night, so here we go. Earlier this month, Cheryl wrote really solid post about maintaining a regular blog post schedule. She makes a lot of good points, and her audience seemed to be aligned with where she’s taking then. Cheryl is a wicked-talented blogger, no doubt. So what’s her recommendation on maintaining a blog schedule? Don’t. Her angle is that posting subpar content, simply for the sake of posting as frequently as possible is a bad idea. That’s fair … but I have different opinions. This post is no way meant to sat that Cheryl’s ideas are wrong. Again, they’re not. In reality, the lines of what determines best practices in blogging have been blurry for years. What works and works well can be different for each and every blogger. What I’m writing here is simply another perspective on blogging and how to make it work, whether it’s for business or building your personal brand or simply finding a creative and mental outlet for your life. Here’s my take… On Momentum and Routine It’s difficult as hell to commit to creating content daily. For some bloggers (like your’s truly), momentum is gained through locking in a routine. When I was bodybuilding back on 2004 – 2005, disciplined routines were everything. From workout schedule to meal planning to learning to pose, it became important for me mentally to stay in an even keeled mindset of the sport.  Make no mistake – body building is more of a mental challenge than physical one. Rest days had to be methodically and carefully planned.  If I lost my normal routine for too long, my mental focus also jump the tracks.
