Aug 16th
It’s about time for an update on where I’ll be speaking over the next few months, in case you’ll be there too.
I talk to a lot of you on Twitter, LinkedIn and in the comments here, and I’m glad to have those opportunities. But I want to meet you in-person, face-to-face. In-person is where relationships get deeper and, eventually, where human business takes place.
I’ve had to back off professional speaking and traveling for the past month. We’ve been fortunate, at Social Business Strategies, to have lots of new opportunities and, with that, my attention has been focused on getting new programs going and figuring out how all of this will scale. It’s been good to focus on that, but I always have the itch to get out and speak.
I also have some help at SBS now, with Cheryl as the tactical lead, as well as a new partner (who will be announced soon). With that support in place, my role is going to start to change again. Going forward, more of my attention and time will focus on getting out to where you are so that we have the time to build deeper relationships.
I’m excited for that. It’s my favorite thing to do.
For now, here’s some of the stuff that’s coming up on my agenda and where I’ll be heading. Maybe we’ll be in the same area soon:
- August 28th - Cheryl and I will be trekking up to Michigan for the Epic Chevy Detroit Summer Tweetup. I’m excited to see friends like Becky Johns and Charlie Wollberg, and maybe even have a chance to meet up with Scott Monty. There seems to be a serious collection of cool kids up in Michigan these days.
- September 1st – I’ll be debating the legitimacy of Location-Based Services like Foursquare, Yelp, Gowalla and the like at the AMA Social Media Special Interest Group monthly meeting. The best part? I’m stepping out of my comfort zone to argue against the value of LBS. This should be interesting.
- September 4th – 6th – Sarah and I (and some friends) will be taking a Labor Day break up at Legend Valley to enjoy some live music from one of my favorite bands. If you’re heading that way, I usually set up camp by the tree line. By all means, stop by and have a beer with our crew.
- September 15th – I’ll be joining a panel for Business Wire. Were going to talk about how to measure the return on investment of online tools. The panel has a nice balance of search experts, corporate marketers and media folks, and will be moderated by Bill Balderaz.
- September 16th – I’m participating in a half-day event on blogger relations, hosted by the central Ohio chapter PRSA. Lots of talented area bloggers, and even a few PR rockstars, will be attending this one.
- September 16th - Apparently September is panel month. Who knew? Immediately following the PRSA event, I’ll make my way over to the CYP 2010 Career and Professional Development Conference and sit on a panel there.
- October 5th – I’ll be speaking at the Hawaii Social Media Summit, which takes place on the island of Honolulu. I’ve never been to Hawaii so this will be a cool trip for me, as well as a chance to meet up with folks from all over the world. I’ll be hanging around for a few days so I have enough time make new friends.
- October 9th - I’ll be presenting in Columbus again for a half day at the National Speakers Association Protrack event, organized by my friend Jim Canterucci. He’s a speaker too and wrote the book on Personal Brilliance.
- October 14th – 16th – Cheryl and I are heading out to Las Vegas for this year’s Blogworld. With a little luck, we’ll also get to hang out with our friend Marie Elizabeth. She’s recently moved out that way and is now working for Zappos.
- March 25th, 2011 – Booked way in advance, I’ll be speaking at next year’s AMA National Collegiate Conference, taking place in New Orleans. This talk focuses on what students and educators should know about personal branding online.
Seriously, if you will be in any of these areas, or at the events, please don’t be afraid to say, “Hello.” I want to meet you in real life.
And if you happen to be looking for a speaker for your next seminar or event, I might be able to help. There’s more information about my speaking business HERE.
