Over the course of this year, I have been so fortunate to have opportunities come my ways as speaker and panel moderator.
I owe lots of people gratitude for giving me those all-important breaks. A BIG thank you goes out to Alvin Borremeo and Jayson Blanton, organizers of Wordcamp Columbus, Brian Everett with TMCA, Mike Bowers, founder of the Ohio Growth Summit, Keith Lampe (who was also one of my clients), Melissa Price and Mark Henson, organizers of Columbus’s Social Media Summer Camp, and Tina Goodman with Sanbox. All of you have invited me to speak to your audiences and I’m grateful!
I don’t speak to make a living (although, I wouldn’t mind getting paid to do it someday). I speak because I enjoy getting on stage. You may not know this about me, but when I was in high school, music and theater were my passions. I actually started at Otterbein as a vocal performance major before I figured out that communication was really my thing (and trust me, it’s better that I didn’t go for a career in singing).
I’ve always loved being on stage. I get an adrenaline rush when I can really connect with an audience and help them learn and spark with ideas.
I’ve heard Chris Brogan call himself a “typist” more than a few times.  When I think about Artie Isaac, I immediately think “teacher”. When I think about Tom Williams, “entrepreneur” pops in my head.
If I had to pick a word that described what I am in this world, I’m staking a claim in being a “communicator”. I’m happy with that term. It’s what I’m trained to be (at least that’s what it says on my college degree anyway).
A Little Shameless Self-Promotion
I’ve been procrastinating on pulling together a list of events I will be speaking over the next few months. In case you’re interested here’s when I’ll be on the soapbox:
- September 2nd – Ohio Web Leaders ::Â “Building Brand YOU” (Thanks to Bill Balderaz, Amy Marshall and Tom Augustine)
- September 8th – The Success Group September Meetup :: New Communication Strategy: Mastering Tools That Create Relationships (Thanks to Jayson and Heather Waits)
- October 11th – 13th - IABC PPR Exchange Conference :: Social Media Communications Panel Discussion & Interactive Dialogue Leader: “Building Brand YOU (adapted version)” (Thanks to Brian Everett and Barb Sanford)
